1 Killed, Several Rescued In South Lake Tahoe Apartment Fire

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) — One person has been killed in a fire at an apartment complex in South Lake Tahoe.

Fire Chief Clive Savacool says firefighters saved the lives of several other residents, including some who were hanging out of second-story windows when crews arrived at the scene just after 11 a.m. Monday.

Six residents were rescued from the second floor and a seventh person escaped on his own from the first floor. Savacool says the fire could have been much worse.
