Nevada's COVID-19 response director says there could be a jump in COVID-19 cases in Nevada.
Caleb Cage said a spike could happen thanks to Labor Day weekend crowds in Las Vegas, with few people wearing masks, and two campaign rallies held by President Donald Trump this past weekend, which flouted state health and safety directives.
Cage said he was concerned about both the Labor Day crowds and the rallies.
He noted that the projected growth in cases comes as the state has seen several weeks of decline in the number of new COVID-19 cases.
Julia Peek, deputy administrator for the Division of Public and Behavioral Health, said contact tracing investigations should be able to reveal how people might have contracted the virus if the spike in cases occurs.
