The non-profit Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation has opened the state’s first preschool for children who are blind or visually impaired.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the Henderson school is open to children who are blind or have low vision. The school will also serve their sighted family members.
Future plans will have it open to any sighted child. The first class, up to 15 children, will have full-tuition scholarships for the first year and a half.
After that, the average cost of weekly tuition will be $250, but officials say no child will be turned away. Nevada is one of just seven states without a state-funded school for children with vision problems.
