CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Carson City sheriff's deputies have arrested an armed man who barricaded himself in a house and fired multiple shots while his grandmother was locked inside a bedroom.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says deputies fired non-lethal bean bags at the suspect Tuesday morning after he appeared at the front door with a semi-automatic pistol.
He was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for a mental evaluation about 90 minutes after the incident began at about 8 a.m. His name hasn't been released.
Furlong says a woman who lived at the house identified as the suspect's grandmother initially reported a mental subject in the house. She remained on the phone with deputies throughout the standoff while hiding in a locked bedroom.
Furlong says he's proud of the way his deputies handled the situation with non-lethal force.
