A sometimes-controversial 747 aircraft has returned to the site of Burning Man – in time for this year’s festival – being held from Aug. 25 to Sept. 2.
Last year, the aircraft, which is part art installation and part nightclub at Burning Man, got stuck for nearly a month on the playa when workers tried to remove it.
Event organizers say they’re better prepared this year for removing the plane after the festival and their plans were approved by the BLM.

Conservationists have expressed concerns that transporting the multi-ton plane across the soft alkali playa is damaging the area.
Meanwhile, some 80,000 Burners are expected to attend this year’s event.
