CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Federal and state agencies are imposing new fire restrictions that take effect on public lands in western Nevada beginning Saturday.
An announcement Friday by the federal Bureau of Land Management, the Nevada Division of Forestry and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says the restrictions are being imposed because of drying vegetation, increasing daytime temperatures and several human-caused fires.
The announcement says the wet spring produced above-average growth of grass and other vegetation that is now drying out due to warmer temperatures.
Restrictions include prohibitions on campfires, on driving vehicles off roads and on smoking except within an enclosed vehicle or at a developed campground..
State parks in the affected areas include Lake Tahoe Nevada, Washoe Lake and Berlin-Ichthyosaur.
