Assembly Passes Age Hike For Buying Tobacco Products

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers introduced and started to quickly pass a bill to raise the smoking age from age 18 up to 21.

The bill sponsored by Republican Assemblyman Jim Wheeler raises the age for adults to buy tobacco products and e-cigarettes.

Wheeler's bill was introduced Sunday, the day before lawmakers adjourn for two years. It was passed overwhelmingly by the Assembly Sunday and sent to the Senate for consideration.

The bill makes an exception for members of the military, leaving the smoking age at 18.

It wasn't immediately clear how that provision would be enforced.
