Nevada Gold Mines Announces Staff Reductions
Nevada Gold Mines, the joint venture being finalized by Barrick Gold Corp. and Newmont Goldcorp Corp. for the operation of their mines in Nevada, is reducing its workforce.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports that 130 positions were eliminated as a result of the joint venture, with some 60 employees transferred to new positions.
The 70 employees who were laid off, including 58 from Newmont, received notice from their respective employers.
Employees were notified last week of the job cuts. Barrick Gold is a supporter of Nevada Public Radio.
