LVCVA Considering Expanding Police Substation On Authority's Property

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has recommended moving forward with a $10 million police substation expansion.

The board will consider approving the launch of the project at Wednesday’s meeting. The two-story substation sits on convention authority property at Swenson Street and Sierra Vista Drive.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports legal experts have questioned the project’s timing, as it coincides with a criminal investigation of the tourism agency.

For the past 10 months, Metro police have been looking at alleged misuse and theft of Southwest Airline gift cards bought by the authority.

One of the authority’s former executives was arrested over the issue. The LVCVA says the substation is necessary to help accommodate more Metro officers on the Strip.
