Arizona High School Students Protest Classmate's Detention

Classmates of an Arizona high school football player protested Monday against the possible deportation of the student to Mexico.

Thomas Torres, who is scheduled to graduate May 22 from Desert View High School, was at a federal holding facility in Casa Grande, according to the family he’s been living with.

Now, on the same date, he’s scheduled to appear in immigration court.

Torres has been in the U.S. since he was a toddler, and his detention is seen by fellow students as a stark example of the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration.

On Monday, Torres’ classmates marched nearly four miles from the school to the sheriff’s office to demand his release.
