Government Agencies Oppose Bill Designed To Strengthen Public Record Access

A bill that would strengthen Nevada public records access laws is facing opposition from government agencies concerned about increased workload and costs.

Senate Bill 287 could potentially enact court-ordered penalties and other enforcement conditions in connection with public records requests. The Senate Government Affairs Committee heard testimony on the bill Wednesday.

The bill would place a cap on public records request fees and mandate that agencies provide digital records in their original formats.
