Group OKs Suggestions To Draw Events To Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A group tasked with coming up with recommendations to draw to Las Vegas special events like the Super Bowl and the World Cup has approved a final report that will go to Nevada's current and next governors.

The Southern Nevada Sporting Event Committee signed off on the recommendations Wednesday.

They have proposed that tourism officials and proposed ad hoc committees split efforts to attract events that would fill the 65,000-seat, partially tax-funded Raiders stadium that's under construction in Las Vegas and other area venues.

Committee chairman Paul Anderson says stakeholders want to be able to go after events that would fill in the area's "slow time" and balance out peak seasons.

Under the proposals, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority would lead efforts to attract large-scale events such as the Super Bowl.
