Officials In Las Vegas Air Info In 2017 Police Chokehold Death

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A public airing of information about the death last year of an unarmed 40-year-old man at the hands of a Las Vegas police officer failed to satisfy the man's mother, who called the proceeding a cover-up of a criminal act.

Trinita Farmer said Monday that her son, Tashii Brown, approached police for help but died after a foot chase, stun gun jolts, punches and a neck restraint.

Medical examiners determined the chokehold killed Brown. But a grand jury found otherwise — after being told that an enlarged heart and methamphetamine in Brown's system might have been factors.

That led to dismissal of charges including involuntary manslaughter against the former officer, Kenneth Lopera.

Lopera never provided sworn testimony about Brown's death in May 2017 and wasn't part of Monday's proceeding.
