Working Toward The Last Straw

Starbucks announced in the past week that it’s eliminating plastic straws at all its locations.

The Seattle-based coffee chain will offer biodegradable alternatives. It’s part of a national effort by many restaurants to cut down on so-called “single-use items.”

Here in Nevada, at the MGM resorts, straws are now being given out to customers only if they ask for one. MGM estimates this will save 100-million straws a year from being trashed.

We talk with Cindy Ortega. She oversees MGM’s environmental sustainability efforts.
