Mayoral Candidate Asked About Money Takes Down Social Media

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Reno mayoral candidate has taken down her campaign website and social media profiles amid newspaper questions about her campaign finance reports.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that Azzi Shirazi tweeted an insult on Monday to a reporter who sought comment about whether Shirazi received campaign loans exceeding contribution limits.

Shirazi, whose full last name is Shirazijangali, then took down her Twitter page and her campaign website.

At issue are six campaign loans Shirazi reported May 13 totaling $46,000 from Sparks-based Hertlein Industries, where Shirazi is listed as vice president of operations and finance and corporate registration documents list her as treasurer and director.

State campaign finance laws allow unlimited personal spending but limit outside loans and contributions to $10,000 per election cycle.

Shirazi filed an amended campaign finance report May 27 saying two Hertlein Industries loans worth $42,000 actually came from herself.
