Gerlach schools will convert from a five-day school week to a Monday-through-Thursday week for the next two school years.
School trustees made the decision last week, saying the shorter school weeks will result in reduced fuel cost, lower utility bills, and an easier time filling positions.
After the two-year period, the trustees will evaluate results and decide on future calendars.
Gerlach is near the Black Rock Desert, about 120 miles north of Reno.
