County Considering Ban on Sticks, Metal Pipes, Bats At Demonstrations

Metro Police want to ban people at public demonstrations and rallies from carrying sticks, metal pipes, bats and other things that could potentially be used as weapons.

A proposed ordinance was up for discussion yesterday at the Clark County Commission meeting.

Metro Police Director Chuck Callaway said they are seeing an increase of people showing up at events around the country for the purpose of fighting or intimidating others.

The commission did not take any action on the ordinance, which must be considered at least one more time before a vote.

A list of banned items was developed with input from the county, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the Culinary Union.
