UNR To Take Proposals For Relocating 12 Historic Homes

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The University of Nevada, Reno says it will take proposals from the public for the transfer of ownership and relocation of 12 historic houses in its Gateway District.

KRNV-TV reportedThursday that university officials consider the Gateway District a key part of its 10-year master plan.

The plan is focused on accommodating the school's projected enrollment of 25,000 students and creating more of a geographic connection to Downtown Reno.

The university received permission to sell the homes in December and hopes to construct a parking garage where they reside.

Opponents sought to keep the homes in their current location for historic preservation, but the university said it couldn't justify the amount of money it would take to convert the homes in light of the need for larger-scale buildings.
