Segerblom Speculates On Sales Tax For Schools

Democratic State Senator and Clark County Commission candidate Tick Segerblom has said he wants to enact a one-percent sales tax increase in Clark County to bring in more money for education.

Specifically, the tax increase would mean an extra $400 million annually to the Clark County School District.

The Reno Gazette Journal reportsSegerblom said he’s got a plan to avoid Republicans who would never vote for the tax increase. A bill could pass by a simple majority if the bill does not actually raise the taxes, but allows the Clark County Commission to do so.

A similar bill was passed in 2013, allowing the Washoe County Commission to decide on a proposed tax increase to help with school construction.
