Metro Spent $3.5M On Overtime For Oct. 1 Shooting

Las Vegas police spent about $3.5 million on overtime in the first week after the October 1 shooting that left 58 people dead on the Las Vegas Strip.

But about half of that is covered by grants and insurance.

Metro Police reported those figures at a meeting of its Fiscal Affairs Committee this week.

In addition, Metro announced that starting in the 2018 school year, Clark County and the city of Las Vegas will take over full control of school crossing guard duties. Metro has been handling the hiring of crossing guards for about the last four years.

A police spokesman said that because the city and county coordinate the crossing guard program, it makes more sense for them to handle it entirely.

The move will save Metro about $3.4 million annually.
