Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez says Sen. Dean Heller's stance on Obamacare repeal has energized the Democrats.

The head of the national Democratic Party said Sen. Dean Heller would pay at the ballot box for his vote in favor of allowing debate of the Republican health care bill.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez told State of Nevada that Heller would rue his failure to break with fellow Republicans and provide the one vote needed to halt the Obamacare repeal effort in the Senate.

Perez said Heller, by voting to proceed with debate, allowed the Senate to open “a can of worms” that could lead to Nevadans losing health coverage if the state’s expanded Medicaid program is rolled back.

The Democratic Party plans to send organizers to Nevada and otherwise support efforts to defeat Heller as he seeks re-election in 2018, Perez said. He said the party has yet to determine how much it plans to spend to unseat Heller, who is finishing his first full term in the Senate.
