Crews Fighting Wildfires In Northern And Southern Nevada

Fire crews responded to two wildfires sparked around Mount Potosi Thursday night.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Metro Police dispatch listed a blaze near Cottonwood Pass at 75 acres as of 2 a.m. Friday.  Smoke jumpers have been ordered to the site. Fire officials report a second, smaller fire near the Potosi Pines Boy Scout Camp is out. Lightning strikes are believed to have started both fires.

In Northern Nevada, Truckee Meadows Fire officials say a team of firefighters narrowly escaped a fire in the Palomino Valley area north of Reno that reversed on them. A house and some vehicles were lost in that fire. Authorities said Thursday that fire was about 20 percent contained and more firefighters have been called in to help fight the blaze.
