RENO, Nev. (AP) — An investigation into the death of a Washoe County Jail inmate has found no wrongdoing by sheriff's deputies.
Justin Thompson's August death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner. Reports found Thompson died as a result of being physically restrained by deputies.
The Sparks Police Department investigated in incident and announced Thursday that they found no criminal wrongdoing by Washoe County sheriff's deputies in the death. The department ruled Thompson's resisting led to his death.
Thompson was arrested Aug. 3 on a charge of domestic battery. He immediately began to act erratically and attempted to escape officers. At one point officers attempted to restrain Thompson and returned him to his cell. Once there, deputies noticed he wasn't breathing and began life-saving measures.
