The Utah Republican Party says it will not appeal a court ruling upholding election changes that allowed candidates to qualify to appear on primary election ballots with enough signatures.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Party Chairman James Evans said Thursday that the GOP will instead seek legislative changes to the law itself.
The GOP had been suing to overturn a law allowing candidates to bypass the party's caucus and convention system in favor of gathering voter signatures. The Utah Supreme Court upheld the law.

Evans said the party will continue to ask legislators to repeal the law, but that he knows that is unlikely. Instead he said the party will look to tweak parts of the legislation.
