Mohave County Looking Into Burro Restrictions

Officials in Mohave County, Arizona are looking into restricting the feeding of wild burros.

As KNPR reported in January, the burro population has skyrocketed recently, with estimates ranging between 1,700 and 1,800 burros living in the area.

Their population is supposed to be capped at just under 500, and the large number of burros has led to car accidents as the animals wander onto roads.

This week, to curb the population, officials are considering feeding restrictions on the animals as they graze along highways.

Other measures include the possibility of sterilization or contraceptive efforts, euthanizing the animals, or simply relocating them elsewhere.

The burros primarily live in the Black Mountains.
