Gov. Sandoval Off To Australia For 2-Week Trade Mission

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Gov. Brian Sandoval is off to Australia for a two-week trade mission focused on mining, gambling and water technology.

The governor leaves Monday, and the mission is set to end on Aug. 6. Others on the trip include the president of the University of Nevada, Reno, the president of the Nevada Mining Association, and representatives from the Southern Nevada Water Authority and Cirque du Soleil.

Australia is Nevada's 10th largest trading partner, with $149 million in imports and exports between the country and the state last year.

Nevada and Australia both have significant mining and tourism industries.

The Nevada delegation will visit Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, where they'll meet with government officials and industry leaders in hopes of opening up new business opportunities with Australians.
