Las Vegas Airport Sees 3.6 Million Passengers In January

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Officials say the number of travelers flying into and out of Las Vegas grew by more than 7 percent to nearly 3.6 million people in January.

McCarran International Airport released statistics Friday reporting that there were 3.6 million passengers last month, a 7.3 percent increase compared to January 2015.

Domestic and international flights increased by 8.1 percent and 0.7 percent, respectively.

Spirit Airlines continued to see double-digit gains, reporting a 26 percent increase in passengers in January compared to the same month last year.

It's a strong start to the new year, as 2015 had the third highest passenger count in airport history with more than 45 million passengers total.

The Vegas airport's peak year in 2007 saw a record 48 million passengers.
