RTC Says Light Rail Is Good Idea

A report from the Clark County Regional Transportation Commission says that building a light rail network would be the best way to connect McCarran International Airport to the Las Vegas Strip and to downtown.

The Las Vegas Sun reports the RTC made the pitch before the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Tuesday, saying that a light rail system would be easily expandable throughout the valley.

The RTC also said that even though a light rail system could be expensive, the existing bus system has a high rate of return from passenger fares.

A full cost for the system was not disclosed today, but is part of a larger, $12 billion plan to reform transportation in the area.

Further discussion on the light rail proposal is anticipated at future RTC meetings this month.
