RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Reno Police Department has purchased new 3-D crash reconstruction equipment with a recent $65,000 grant.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that the department's Major Accident Investigation Team received the grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety.
Officer Tim Broadway said in a news release Thursday that police have to measure and diagram crash scenes, which can take time and manpower. That time can be shortened using the equipment from Nevada-based FARO technologies.

Broadway says it also helps reduce the number of officers on scene and the amount of time streets are closed.
The system uses precise 3-D measurements and imaging to compare the vehicles and buildings in the area of the crash.
