In Shooting, Metro Kills Suspect Originally Thought To Be Armed

Police say a murder suspect was shot dead by local officers trying to arrest him in a residential neighborhood several blocks west of the Las Vegas Strip.

Officer Larry Hadfield says U.S. marshals were with Las Vegas police trying to apprehend the man when the shooting happened about 2 p.m. Thursday on Gilded Crown Court. That's near Durango Drive and Desert Inn Road.

The man who was shot was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hadfield says no officers, agents or bystanders were injured.

Other details of the incident weren't immediately available, and the names of the man who had been sought and the officers involved weren't immediately made public.

The Las Vegas Sun reports Metro believed the man to be armed, but it turns out he only had a cell phone in his hand and not a weapon.

Metro said the deceased was wanted on warrants in Arizona as well.
