Traditional Taxi Companies Face The Competition Head On

Uber and Lyft have invaded Las Vegas and they’re taking business from traditional cab companies.

So how do cab companies compete?

Dwight Kines has some ideas about that. Kines is the new  president of the Taxicab, Limousine and Paratransit Association. The association is based in Rockville, Maryland and represents about 1,000 cab owners and companies nationwide.

"Quite honestly, Uber has forced us to take a hard look at our service levels in the taxi industry," Kines told KNPR's State of Nevada. "We're raising our game."

Kines adds that "It's time for the taxi industry to accept the fact that the T.N.C.'s [Transportation Network Companies] such as Uber or Lyft - we call them ride hailing companies -  are here to stay, and begin to compete."

Kines is also the vice president for the mid-Atlantic region at Transdev, a taxi company based in Baltimore.
