Local Immigrant Leaders On What They Want From Candidates

The Nevada caucuses are four months away, and as presidential candidates make more and more trips to Las Vegas, immigrant groups have a message for them: Our vote can make or break your candidacy, so you better speak to our needs.

Last week, Latino and Asian leaders held a press conference outlining what they want to hear from presidential candidates.

Raquel Cruz, the RAIZ director for community outreach for Planned Parenthood, said the issue that is uniting most immigrant communities is comprehensive immigration reform.

"Immigration reform is the number one motivating factor for Latinos and Asians and we settle for nothing less than a pathway to citizenship," Cruz said.

Cruz told KNPR's State of Nevada that immigration reform doesn't just impact undocumented workers, but people in your neighborhood, friends and families.

"It's an issue of families not Democrats or Republicans," she said and she believes most people have waited long enough for changes.
