LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Clark County Zoning Commission is reconsidering a permit application that could reopen an unaccredited zoo in Moapa.
The Las Vegas Sun reports that the commissioners voted unanimously Wednesday to reconsider Roos-n-More's application for special use permits, which it had denied at its meeting last month. The vote means the zoo's monkeys, otters, kangaroos, porcupines and more can stay on the 9-acre property owned by veterinarians Valarie and Jay Holt.
The couple moved to the rural property in 2006 with kangaroos and wallabies. They added animals and tours over the years, grabbing the attention of county officials.
The county and the Southern Nevada Health District closed Roos-n-More in January 2104.
Some neighbors say the zoo causes noise and attracts flies, while others have raised money to support Roos-N-More.
