Trails and parks throughout the state will be getting a boost in the coming months in large part because the deadening recession is finally lifting.
Through a one-of-a-kind federal program called the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act, or SNPLMA, money collected from the sale of federal land in Clark County goes back to Nevada for conservation or environmental uses.
Established almost two decades ago, the act has resulted in some 15,000 acres of land sold for about $3 billion.
The Bureau of Land Management oversees the program. It is currently in the process of reviewing several applications for funding totalling about $42 million.
KNPR's State of Nevada talked to Karla Norris, the program's assistant district manager about those projects and how the program has bounced back from the recession.
