Highway Reopens At NV Wildfire 50 Miles East Of Fallon

A state highway that was closed in a wildfire in north-central Nevada has reopened and firefighters say they're making steady progress on the blaze in the remote area along the Desatoya Mountains about 50 miles southeast of Fallon.

The Bureau of Land Management said Tuesday Nevada Highway 722 reopened with some controls near U.S. Highway 50 at about noon.

About 200 crew members are battling the fire that has burned 6 square miles of sage brush, grass and juniper trees southwest of Austin about 13 miles east of Reno.

No structures are threatened but some sage grouse habitat has burned and some priority habitat is threatened.

Lightning started the fire on Aug. 14. BLM spokeswoman Lisa Ross said it's about 15 percent contained with full containment projected sometime Saturday.
