LAS VEGAS (AP) — Unemployment rates for Nevada's main metropolitan areas are up slightly, even though the overall state rate fell to a seven-year low.
The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported Tuesday that Las Vegas' jobless rate in June was 7 percent. That's up four-tenths of a percentage point from May and is slightly higher than the statewide rate of 6.9 percent.
The Reno-Sparks unemployment rate rose three-tenths of a percentage point to 6.4 percent, while Carson City's June jobless rate rose to 7.3 percent.
The rates for all three areas were down year-over-year.
State economist Bill Anderson said month-to-month volatility in the unemployment rate is normal, and the best indicator of the state's unemployment situation is the falling rate year-over-year.
