Tobler To Term Out As Boulder City's Mayor

Boulder City Review

Roger Tobler is about to leave his post as mayor of Boulder City.

After the past eight years as the mayor of Boulder City, Roger Tobler is ending his public service duties. Term limits will end his service in about two weeks when Rod Woodbury becomes mayor.

Tobler first joined the city council in 2003 and was mayor during one of the worst financial periods in the town's history. He was also in the mayor's chair when the city was involved in a nasty lawsuit about public participation, costing Boulder City more than $800,000.

"We saw we needed to change some things," Tobler said. "We needed more transparency, to change some of our policy and cut quite a bit out of our budget."

The city's golf course, Tobler said, will be paid off within the month.

The help of solar and insterstate construction projects have certainly helped with the city's finances as well. Interstate 11, a $490 million Interstate project that will bypass Boulder City and eventually connect Las Vegas to Phoenix, has been significant for Boulder City.

"The community and southern Nevada saw the regional importance of that project," Tobler said.

Tobler tells KNPR about other ups and downs with the city, and what his plans are for the future.
