ELKO (AP) — Northeast Nevada's largest city will keep trying to attract commuter service to Elko Regional Airport, even though a measure supporting the idea failed to get off the ground in the state Legislature.
Elko City Manager Curtis Calder tells the Elko Daily Free Press that restoring flights to and from Reno and adding other regional cities would benefit the state, not just Elko.
Lawmakers in the state Senate supported spending $1 million a year and a commission to seek expanded service.

But the measure didn't get a hearing in the Assembly before the legislative session ended June 1, and the state budget didn't include funding for the air service bill.
Calder says backers will try again when the Legislature convenes in two years.
