Efforts to save Nevada's state fish is paying off

Nevada’s state fish, the Lahontan cutthroat trout, is back.

Nearly extinct 45 years ago, the fish is now reproducing in the lower Truckee River near Reno.

Fisheries now support the trout’s comeback.

But the fish might today be non-existent if not for the tinkering of Bryce Nielson. In the 1980s, he was a fish biologist for the state of Utah when he took the Lahontan cutthroat trout under his wing.
