Demonstrators to Gather in Las Vegas for Minority Issues

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Protesters will gather in downtown Las Vegas Friday to rally for working class and minority issues, such as immigration reform and the growing tension between police and people of color.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that the march will be at 4:30 p.m. on May Day, which is typically a holiday for labor groups but has taken on an immigration flavor in the past few years.

Local activists have been holding May Day demonstrations in downtown Las Vegas for nearly a decade. The event typically draws hundreds of participants.

The protest comes as racial tension has turned to riots in Baltimore after a 25-year-old black man died of a spinal-cord injury under mysterious circumstances while in police custody.
