CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Lawmakers who say they're tired of deciding landscaping, parking and trash can disputes are trying to delegate homeowner association legislation to a more local level.
Republican Assemblyman Ira Hansen presented AB233 on Thursday. The bill would remove the chapter of Nevada law that governs common-interest communities and push regulation to a lower level, such as the state commission on HOAs.
Hansen said the Legislature wastes countless hours dealing with minor, neighborhood-level issues, such as bills allowing HOA residents to display the state flag and governing window shades.
He estimated there were about two dozen HOA bills working through the Legislature this session, and pointed out that many are already delegated to a subcommittee because they're so time-consuming.
Opponents say repealing the statute would leave too many loose ends for HOAs.
