The AFL-CIO union is running TV ads urging Gov. Brian Sandoval to veto a bill that would suspend Nevada's prevailing wage rules on school construction projects.
Union spokeswoman Rachel Rekowski said the commercials started running Friday, a day after the Nevada Assembly narrowly passed SB119.
The bill would extend school construction bonds beyond the term approved by voters as a way to ease overcrowding, but also ends rules that are essentially a minimum wage for contractors.
It was opposed by Democrats who said it would harm middle-class contractors. Some conservatives opposed the bill because they see the bond rollover as a tax increase.
Sandoval spokeswoman Mari St. Martin says the governor will thoroughly review the bill when it arrives at his desk, but he intends to sign the measure.
