State Senator Says GOP, Democrats Have Common Ground In Nevada Blueprint

Las Vegas Democratic State Senator Aaron Ford said a number of things in the Democrats “Nevada Blueprint” are similar to Gov. Brian Sandoval’s agenda laid out in the State of State address.

Ford told KNPR’s State of Nevada that much of what the governor proposed are things Democrats have been pushing for years.

“We’re delighted to have him at the table to pursue those items,” Ford said.

In a news conference Monday, Assembly and Senate Democrats unveiled the eight-page plan, which includes raising the minimum wage, making childcare more affordable and closing tax loopholes for big business.

“Every single thing in the Blueprint should gain bipartisan support,” Ford said. “If our colleagues on the other side of the aisle are interested in protecting the middle class, they’ll get on board with every single idea we have in there.”

Democratic lawmakers couldn't say whether the cost of their plan would be higher than the $7.3 billion in revenue that Gov. Brian Sandoval's budget calls for, and they didn't offer specifics about how their tax plan would differ from Sandoval's.

Ford said he is looking forward to seeing what all the concepts look like on paper.
