Sports books in Nevada have something new to offer their gambling consumers – betting on the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The Nevada Gaming Control approved an amendment to state gaming regulations Thursday by a unanimous vote – and the William Hill sports book almost immediately followed up with posting odds.
The U.S. men’s basketball team and Jamaica’s Usain Bolt for the 100M are both slated as favorites to take home the gold. Betting on the Olympics was outlawed in 2001, after Sen. John McCain pushed for a ban on amateur sport gambling. Some said this put Nevada at a disadvantage compared to other gambling markets.
