Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid will undergo surgery on his right eye following an exercise accident that left him seriously hurt.
The surgery is set for next week.
In a statement from the senator’s office, a spokesperson said the surgery is necessary to help recover vision in his right eye.
Sen. Reid will work from his home in Washington, D.C. following the surgery to minimize strain on his eyes, according to the statement.
Reid told KNPR’s State of Nevada that getting sight back in his eye is not a ‘slam dunk’ but that he and his doctors are hopeful. A spokesperson did say that Reid’s four broke ribs are healing well.
The senate minority leader injured his eye New Year’s Day when a resistance band broke sending him crashing into a cabinet. The accident took the senator out of the first two weeks of the congressional session. He only returned to the Capitol this week.
