Vigil Held In Memory Of Girl Who Committed Suicide

Family members and friends held a candlelight ceremony to remember a Las Vegas seventh-grader who shot herself dead last December in what her parents say was a response to being bullied at her middle school.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the vigil late Thursday outside a Clark County School Board office marked a year since 13-year-old Hailee Joy Lamberth committed suicide.

Her parents say Lamberth said in her suicide note that she had been victimized, but school officials never told them their daughter was bullied.

The parents say that deprived them of a chance to intervene, get guidance or obtain counseling.

The parents have a wrongful-death and negligence lawsuit pending against the district.

District officials say they have reviewed policies, procedures and responsibilities of administrators to report bullying.
