Reports: Fiore Back In As Chairwoman of Taxation Committee

Las Vegas Assemblywoman Michele Fiore is back in her post as the chairwoman of the Taxation Committee, according to political analyst Jon Ralston.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported earlier that Speaker-Elect John Hambrick had removed her from the position Wednesday, following reports that Fiore had about $1 million in federal tax liens levied against her over the last decade.

The Review-Journal quoted Republican Assemblyman Ira Hansen, who stepped down from the position of speaker-elect after a Reno newspaper published comments made by Hansen that people described as racist and sexist, about the removal.

Ralston told KNPR’s State of Nevada that tax issues such as that can “land people in prison.”

A spokesman for the Internal Revenue Service told “KNPR’s State of Nevada” they are bound by law not to confirm or deny questions about tax investigations.

Fiore did not return repeated requests to appear on “KNPR’s State of Nevada.”

Fiore is the elected majority leader in the assembly.
