Judge In Reno Blocks Uber’s Ride-Sharing In Nevada

RENO — A Washoe County district judge has granted the state's request for a preliminary injunction to block the ride-sharing company Uber Technologies from operating in Nevada.

Washoe District Judge Scott Freeman says he'll formalize his order in an official ruling on Wednesday. But he told lawyers on both sides after more than six hours of arguments in his Reno courtroom late Tuesday that Uber has failed to comply with the necessary Nevada licensing requirements.

Freeman told Uber's lawyers they have a great product and may be close to working out a regulatory scheme they think would more fairly treat Uber as a technology company instead of a commercial motor carrier. But he says that in the meantime, he's not willing to put the public's safety at risk.
