Defense Will Get Caesars Records In Internet Gambling Case

A pretrial evidence dispute between attorneys for Caesars Palace and defense lawyers for eight men accused of setting up an international Internet gambling hub at resort has been resolved. Defense lawyer David Chesnoff said Thursday that the two sides reached agreement after U.S. Magistrate Judge Peggy Leen said she wouldn't quash a defense subpoena for Caesars records.

Defense lawyer Thomas Goldstein told the judge they expect documents will show casino officials were involved in an illegal FBI search of the Caesars villas where the defendants were arrested in July. They have pleaded not guilty to setting up equipment to take illegal bets on World Cup soccer games. Prosecutors deny improper tactics were used to get an FBI search warrant.
