The Nevada Supreme Court ruled on Oct. 30 that dancers at Sapphire Gentlemen's Club in Las Vegas should be considered employees, and are entitled to back pay.
For years, strip clubs have treated dancers as independent contractors who are not paid by the clubs, but do earn dance fees from customers. That allowed clubs to charge fees for DJs and other services.
But the court determined that the club's scheduling and dress policies treated the workers more like employees than contractors. Sapphire Gentlemen's Club could owe millions in back pay to more than 6,000 dancers who have worked there in recent years.
